Public Health Concerns: COVID-19

A Note about Public Health Concerns

Whenever public health concerns garner widespread attention (such as the emergence of COVID-19) schools are often asked if special measures are needed. Our district’s response to public health emergencies is based on following guidance or directives issued from public health agencies such as the PA Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
At this time, those agencies are not recommending schools implement special measures beyond the usual suggestions for limiting the spread of illness, such as classroom sanitation practices we already routinely implement.

Best Practices For Reducing the Spread of Illness

  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Wash hands often and thoroughly
  • Avoid sharing eating utensils and cups/bottles
  • Clean all “high touch” surfaces daily
  • Monitor your symptoms
  • If your child is displaying symptoms of an illness, contact your primary care provider and keep your child at home. Absences from school due to illness are considered excused.
